What are your three favorite album covers of all-time?
This one is tough, both because I remember when album covers were bigger and you could see what was going on and because it's so hard to separate the cover from the music.
Also because the first Velvets Underground 'banana' cover should be off-limits here. It will never be topped and exists in a totally separate universe from all other album covers.
That said, these are my 3 favorite album covers of all time RIGHT NOW:
1. London Calling: First off, it's a rip-off of an Elvis cover which is a very punk rock thing to do. Also, it's IMPOSSIBLE to look at this cover and not hear the opening chords of "London Calling".
2. Soul Asylum, Clam Dip and Other Delights. I think I like album covers that are rip-offs of other album covers. This is a great rip-off of the equally brilliant Herb Alpert 'Whipped Cream and Other Delights' cover.
3. Finally, The Dwarves 'Blood Guts & Pussy'. The Dwarves really swung for the fences here. If you wanna rock nothing beats a photo of naked chicks and a dwarf covered in blood. Oh, did I mention the dwarf is holding a dead rabbit? 50% sure that's where the blood is coming from.
