Nintendon't
I woke up at 5:30 this morning and Jeff picked me up at 5:45. Our first stop was Best Buy, which already had a line of over 100 people. We asked the person in the front how many they were expecting and he said 24. (The person in the front never lies, they're solid.)
We then drove to Colma and got in the Target line which was about 150 strong until the world's bravest underpaid employee came out and told us they had eight in stock. Amazingly most people stayed in line muttering "Do we believe him?" We drove by the Circuit City, because it was close-by and saw a tent pitched at the front door and a large propane heater farther down the line. Too hardcore; also too many people. Circuit City is not getting 70 Wiis today.
We decided to give up and stopped at Krispy Kreme. Plenty of donuts in stock. Our faith renewed in the supply chain, we decided to try the EB Games in The Mission. We were 7th and 8th in line. We waited for a while and then heard that the other EB Games had signs in the windows saying they had 5 Wiis in stock. This one didn't have a sign. Oddly, the lack of that particular kindness on this EB Games' part gave people hope. Then we noticed they opened at 11. Most people in line decided that meant 10.
It was 7am at that point and I decided that waiting 3 more hours for the probability that I'd go home empty handed was too much; plus Jeff had the flu. Fuck it. We went home.
I'd like to take this opportunity to tell Nintendo to kiss my ass.
